Kusadasi is very close to world-wide famous Ephesus and is a major stop for international cruise ships. For that reason it is like a base for all these daily city tours. Most of these tours are also organized from Selcuk also with similar prices. Izmir departures (from Izmir hotels or port) are also available with a reasonable supplement. Kusadasi is the most recommended destination for joining these tours, in terms of its strategic location and distances to the tour places.

TOUR 1:HALF DAY IZMIR CITY TOUR

Turkey’s third largest city and its major port on the Aegean Sea. According to ancient documents, it was Ionian Smyrna which was the birthplace of Homer, the author of the epic of Troy
Places to be visited:
Clock tower, symbol of the city, this picturesque clock tower in Konak Meydan was built in 1901 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Emperor Abdulhamit II's accession to the throne. The clock itself was a gift of Emperor Wilhelm II of Germany.

Kadifekale (Mount Pagus): the fortifications built by the Byzantines and extended by the Ottomans at the summit of  this small mount. This 4th century BC castle commands a bird's eye view of Izmir and is the perfect place to watch the sun set over the city.

TOUR 2 :FULL DAY EPHESUS FROM KUSADASI AND IZMIR

Full day tour of Ephesus and House of Virgin Mary.
If you depart from Kusadasi, drive to  the north passing by St. John’s Basilica,  Byzantine fortress in Selcuk and the ruins of the Temple of Artemis. You will enter the Ephesus Open Air Museum through the Magnesia Gate and begin a slow, downhill walk with your guide into the ruins of this Roman provincial capital. Your route takes you past the Odeon, the Celsus Library, the Temple of Hadrian, the Fountain of Trajan and the Great Theater. The Theater had seating for 25,000, was the site where St. Paul preached to the Ephesians, and is used today for a local spring festival.  After the visit head for the upper gate of Ephesus. After Ephesus drive up to The House of Virgin Mary located in Bulbul Mountain. The Vatican has recognized this small house in the Solmissos Mountains as the final resting place of the Virgin Mary. A small shrine dedicated to St. Mary was found when the ruins of the house were first discovered. Lastly visited by Pope Benedict  in his 2007 Turkey visit.

EPHESUS:
During both the Hellenistic and Roman periods Ephesus was the most important port and cultural center of the eastern world. The remains of the city are still spellbinding today. Of all the ancient cities of Turkey, Ephesus is the best preserved and most visited in all ages and is as popular as it was in ancient times. This is due to the miraculous discovery of the House the Virgin Mary. The city had splendid buildings and was dedicated to the Goddess Artemis, whose temple was considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The main monuments that we will see during the visit of this fascinating city are: the street of Arcadiane, the majestic theatre, marble road, library of Celsus, market place street of the Curettes, baths of Scholastic state agora, prytaneion, odeon. The town of Seljuk, is dominated by a Byzantine citadel close to the basilica of St. John built in the 5th century, on the site of tomb of the Apostle. Seljuk has also an exceptionally fine archaeological museum.

Pergamum or Pergamon (Bergama in Turkish)) was one of the most beautiful of the cities of ancient world that became an important kingdom during the Hellenistic period, under the Attalid dynasty, 281–133 BC. Its architecture and statues are among the finest samples of the Hellenistic world. Pergamon's library on the Acropolis (the ancient Library of Pergamum) is the second best in the ancient Greek civilization.

The majestic acropolis looms behind the modern town is the first destination to visit the Temple of Trajan, Hellenistic barracks and tower, palaces, library, temple of Athena, theatre, temple of Dionysus, altar of Zeus. Asclepion was one of the most famous shrines and therapeutic centers in the ancient world.

The Red Basilica (Kizil Avlu) was originally was built as a temple of Serapis, an Egyptian God, which was later transformed into the Red Basilica complex about one kilometer south of the Acropolis. It consists of a main building and two round towers. In the first century AD, the Christian Church at Pergamum inside the main building of the Red Basilica was one of the Seven Churches to which the Book of Revelation was addressed. TOUR 4 : SARDIS TOUR FROM KUSADASI AND IZMIR

Sardis was once capital of the ancient kingdom of Lydia and from the 7th to the mid-6th century B.C. was the world’s richest city. A good part of its wealth was coming from gold being washed down from the mountain by the river Pactolus, which the Lydian collected in sheep skins spread in the shallows, perhaps a source of the legend of the Golden Fleece. The most famous monument remaining from the ancient Sardis is the temple of Artemis. Equally impressive are the Roman gymnasium and baths from the 2nd century A.D. Also shops and a Synagogue complete the complex with the marble Court in the centre.

TOUR 5 : FULL DAY PMD (PRIENE / MILETUS / DIDYMA) TOURS FROM KUSADASI AND IZMIR

Priene-Miletus-Didyma Tour: This tour covers 3 magnificent cities of ancient times, close to each other.

PRIENE: Despite of its small size, Priene was a very important city in ancient times because on its territory stood the Panionium, the central meeting-place and sanctuary of the Ionian Confederacy. The theatre, the temple of Athena, the agora, the Bouleterion and the temenos of Zeus Olympus will be the steps of this visit.

MILETUS: Miletus was the principal port and the richest imperium at the Aegean coast. Thales of Miletus believed that there was a fundamental unity beneath the apparent disorder and complexity of nature and he postulated that water was the basic material for all things. The theater of Miletus is by far the most impressive of the town’s surviving monuments. There is also the council-chamber, marketplace, temples, baths and Islamic monument: Ilyas Bey Mosque to be visited.

DIDYMA: Didyma was an ancient Ionian city, the modern Didim, Turkey. The town formed just outside of the sanctuary containing a temple and oracle of Apollo, the Didymaion. Didyma was a neighbor of Miletus. To approach it, visitors would follow the Sacred Way to Didyma. Both Herodotus and Pausanias dated the origins of the oracle at Didyma before the Ionian colonization of this coast.

Pamukkale & Hierapolis tour.
Visiting the amazing white colored travertines, hot spring pools and water terraces have been created by nature in millions of years on the mountain slopes of Pamukkale and the ancient city of Hierapolis which has the biggest ancient Necropolis of Turkey with 1200 gravestones. Pamukkale (Hierapolis) is one of the most enchanting and remarkable sights in the whole of Turkey with the great dazzling white plateau, almost 400 feet high, rising in a curtain of stalagmites and shallow pools, giving one into another on hundreds of different levels, and ancient city of Hierapolis located on this plateau. The great baths were constructed in the second century and are so well-preserved that they now serve as a museum.
